Remembrance Day, Oxbridge and Annie performance

Listen

Remembrance Day

This year has seen many challenges and a Virtual Remembrance was another first for the CCF cadets. There was a good turn out from the cadets who were proudly wearing their Blue uniform in public for the first time. They formed up in open order to maintain social distancing. The ceremony was beamed live to classrooms throughout the school and included a poem written by a 14 year old, the last post and a minute’s silence. I would like to thank all those who played their part in keeping the memories alive by putting this together, from the technical team to the trumpeter who played a moving last post in the atmospheric conditions.

We are currently recruiting the next generation of RAF cadets from Year 9. If you would like your son or daughter to be part of an organisation which offers amazing opportunities to grow as a young person and spectacular adventures then please contact jbrett@tqacademy.co.uk and we will get the details sent out to you. We are putting on a taster session on Wednesday 16th December and start from January keeping within the Year 9 bubble. We run the cadets to broaden the experiences of the cadets and not as a recruitment organisation.

Mr Whelan has led assemblies all week on the theme of remembrance.  He has explained to students the conflicts that the UK has been involved in over the past century, what the different poppies mean and how the ceremony at the Cenotaph takes place in London.

Year 7 PAA

Our Year 7 PAA is literally bursting at the seams with talented Year 7 students! I don’t think we have ever had so many Year 7s in PAA before, in fact I know we haven’t. Being able to offer such an increase in places to each year group in PAA has definitely been the silver lining of having to divide PAA up into year group bubbles. Our year 7s have grabbed this opportunity with both hands, with 34 talented youngsters gaining places. So many that, for the first time ever, we are going to be putting on a Year 7 production. Over the last two weeks, the students have been put through their paces in acting, singing and dance auditions for Annie! Miss Pappin tells me that the casting of the production is proving to be quite challenging as there are just so many amazing students for each role! What a wonderful situation to be in, well done Year 7 PAA.

Oxbridge breakfast

Our eleven students who have applied for Oxford and Cambridge have now sat their tough entrance exams.  To celebrate this we had breakfast together where we spoke about their experience of the exams and their preparation for it.

It is wonderful to hear the news of so many offers coming in for our Year 13 students who have applied for university places.

Lego Therapy

Creates Imagines, Remembers. This week students did a special challenge in year 7 lego therapy to represent Armistice day with Lego. The students worked on their own creations capturing an image to represent this important day. From left to right Toby Forrester-finney, Abigail Mealin, Ben Phillips, Darcy Reece, Tyler Hunter, Kyla Ridgewell.
