Remembering Emica - a touching & fitting tribute
Emica’s family and friends gathered on Thursday 30th December at Torquay Crematorium along with so many others whose lives were touched by her. At the gathering, we were able to pay our final respects to Emica and we heard how she had made such a positive impact on those who knew and loved her. It was a touching and fitting tribute to a remarkable young lady. The following poem was read out following the Thanksgiving for Emica’s life:
God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you and whispered, “Come to me”.
You didn’t deserve what you went through, so He gave you rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful, he only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back to suffer that again.
Before Emica passed away, she spent time at Bristol Children’s Hospital where the medical team worked tirelessly to care for her as well as supporting her family. Since Emica passed away, her family has made an incredible effort to fundraise for the official charity of the Bristol Children’s Hospital, the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal, they have already raised over £4,500.
Emica’s Mum wrote “Grand appeal gave me a room for 2 weeks so I could stay with Emica. Just across the road so I was a stone’s throw away. They were absolutely fabulous. The whole team at Bristol hospital were incredible. The Play team there helped us do moulds of Emica’s hands, handprints and fingerprints. They made every second we had with her special. Although Emica was in a coma it did not stop all the teams speaking to her directly, chatting away to her, providing books so I could read to her, music devices to play any music she would like, fibre optic lights and aromatherapy diffusers which made the room smell incredible. The team care deeply about every single patient there, and there was not a dry eye on the PICU ward when Emica passed away.”
To support the family’s fundraising efforts we will be holding a mufti day on Thursday 13th January. I have been asked by many people how they can make a donation to support the family’s cause, therefore we will be asking for a donation of £1 or an amount that they would wish to donate to the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal on behalf of the family.
As a Year 7, Emica had made such a positive impression with our staff and her fellow students. Emica made friends quickly and easily due to her infectious personality; she had made many new friends since joining Torquay Academy. Her friends talk about her as kind, loving and caring. Emica made her friends laugh easily and often.
Emica’s Mum wrote a poignant message sharing the most tragic news: “Our beautiful girl Emica went to sleep at the side of the road on November 25th, and never woke. She passed away peacefully on December 11th surrounded by her parents, and the wonderful team at Bristol Children’s Hospital.”
