Perfect Effort Grades
Getting a one for effort in every category from every teacher has never happened before. At the end of quarter three, 4 students managed to achieve this! I am so impressed with them; they have each had the perfect quarter and I couldn’t be prouder. The students are:

As usual, the newly put up league tables create a frenzy of interest as students check out their new average scores and league positions.
Below the Year 8 students celebrating their excellent improvements in effort scores in the last teaching cycle. Everyone pictured improved their effort scores and moved up the tables.
Music Performances
It’s been a busy week for the music department with two back to back gigs.
Year 9 & Year 10 Concert
The first, on Wednesday evening, saw all year 9 and year 10 music performance students take to the stage in the assembly area. They performed to a full house with over 300 in the audience. All students that took part should be congratulated on what were quite simply the best performances they have done to date. Many thanks to all who came to support, excellent audience interaction and a fantastic atmosphere!
Sixth Form – Live @ the Barrel House, Totnes
The second, on Thursday evening, took the music department to The Barrel House in Totnes. This time it was the sixth form music students’ turn to shine. As part of their course, the students are required to organise a live event with complete independence. The sixth formers organised the venue, line up and social media publicity campaign behind the event. They kicked off the evening with their own set followed by the other acts they had organised. It was an overwhelming success with the students (and their parents!) partying long into the night.
Year 8 Plainmoor House Football Finals 2017
Last Friday the year 7’s traveled to Plainmoor to participate in the annual house football competition. The competition was open to both boys and girls who competed with an excellent spirit and determination throughout the day. Houses were put into 2 leagues of 4 with the top 2 finishers entering a cup competition and the bottom 2 entering a plate competition.
After the hard fought semi-finals the plate final was between Nearne and Brunel. Congratulations to Brunel who won plate with a 2-0 victory.
The final of the Cup was between Harrison and Christie. Unfortunately for Christie, Ryan Wilson was again on top scoring form and Harrison regained their championship title for the second year in a row!
TA’s football academy had a large role in running the tournament. They did an excellent job managing teams and refereeing alongside a number of other roles.
Well done to everyone who participated in an excellent house tournament.
Buckingham Palace Visit
Current Yr 7 student, Ellie -Mae Gilligan, recently attended Buckingham Palace where her parents were awarded with MBEs for services to fostering and young people. Ellie-Mae said the family had a lovely time.
Also attending were Ellie-Mae’s older sisters, former students, Colleen and Elizabeth Gilligan.
Class of 1987 Reunion
I was delighted to be have shown around a group of students who left in 1987. As they toured the school, they were wowed by our current facilities and tried to figure out how the old buildings were configured in relation to our current site.
National My Red Thumb Day – 11th May 2017
The sixth form students took part in the national ‘My Red Thumb Day ‘which brings awareness to the issues of drivers using their mobile phones whilst driving. The goal of the day is to reduce road traffic casualties due to texting. Spread the word! #MyRedThumb.
Charity Event for Dementia Awareness
A big thank you to all of you that supported and donated to the charity coffee morning that we held on Thursday of this week. As there is a national campaign this week on raising awareness of dementia we have decided to support this by donating the money we raised to this great cause. Dementia is unfortunately becoming a more common illness that significantly impacts upon individuals health and well being. We need to all become more understanding and knowledgeable of the ways that we can help, care and support those people with the conditions and their close family members.
