National Quarter Finals, house charities and velodrome trips
House Charities
During this round of house assemblies, the focus was the fundraising that our students had been doing for local charitable organisations.
Each house is aligned to a local charity with links to the house figurehead; the charities were carefully chosen by the students themselves.
For the past four terms, students have been raising money for their charities through events such as non-uniform days and a Spring fayre. As always, there is a healthy element of competition involved.
During the week representatives from the eight charities: The Children’s Society, Rowcroft Hospice, Animals in Distress, The Premature Baby Unit, The Royal British Legion, Torbay Coast and Countryside, The Red Cross and Torbay Stroke Support attended the assemblies to tell our students a little more about the work they do, receive the monetary donations and thank the students for their hard work.
The representatives were able to tell students what their money would go towards providing, for example, the money raised for Stroke Support will be used to hire a room in Paignton Library- on a weekly basis- to allow stroke survivors to attend support group meetings and the money raised for Animals in Distress will go directly towards feeding some of the many animals in the charity’s care.
Our students were very interested in the information they received and are already enthusiastically planning how they can raise further sums in the future.

U13 Girls Football into the National Quarter Finals
On Monday, the U13 Football team took on Cleeve School, who travelled down from Cheltenham. It was the toughest game of the season, but we managed to come away with a 1-0 win, scored by Kayla with an assist from Frankie. The girls played brilliantly, despite it being a tiring game. We are through to the quarter finals of the National Cup. We are waiting to find out which school we will be playing in the quarter finals, but we know it will involve a trip to London. This is the fourth TA team to reach a national quarter final this year.
Well done to Ellie, Maria, Evie, Neeve, Kayla, Ava, Frankie, Amelia, Poppy, Farah and Leela we are extremely proud of you!!
U15 Netball Academy

On Wednesday, two teams from our U15 Netball Academy travelled to play Ivybridge School in readiness for their netball tour to Wales and taking part in the World Student games at Loughborough University in May and June. From the start, a stand-out component of both teams’ games was their high work rate and determination to play with intensity during all four quarters. Well done to all that represented Team TA to such a high standard. After two very close games, the girls came away with a well deserved win (13-12) and draw (7-7). Congratulations to Tammy Westacott who was voted both player’s player and opposition’s player of the day. The girls will continue to prepare thoroughly for their upcoming tours with several more upcoming netball fixtures which will feature in the blog and weekly training sessions.

Year 11 South Devon Cup Semi Final vs SDC

On Wednesday the year 11 football team reached the final of the South Devon Cup. The team managed to beat South Devon College in a dramatic penalty shootout. Our performance was not at the level we usually show, however, the team showed great character and a level of discipline in exceptionally trying circumstances.
TA will now play the TBGS in the final next Wednesday at Devon FA. The goalscorers were Will Green and Charlie Pope.
Velodrome Success for Year 7
Our Year 7 cycling finalists travelled to Newport’s Olympic Velodrome in Wales to compete in the annual house cycling finals. This year’s competition was the biggest ever with over 70 students in year 7 competing for a place on the minibus. Students had to produce the fastest times in our onsite races to qualify. The velodrome consisted of a 2 hour session. In the first half a professional coach trained our finalists and we held the races in the second half. The standard was excellent this year with the top 5/6 positions only separated by 100ths of a second. Well done to everyone who participated in the competition. Not only the finalists but everyone who took part in the trials as well. House points were gained from every entry.

After an hour and a half training the races took place that consisted of a timed lap of the track. Well done to all involved, the competition was excellent with only half a second separating the times for 7 boys. Well done to all 75 students entering and gaining house points for their participation.

Athletics Success
Over the last 2 weekends, Grace competed at Exeter Arena against athletes from all over the South West in the beginning of the summer events season. All of her hard training, with not one but two local clubs, over winter paid off. She achieved personal bests in all 3 of her events. In 100M she now runs under 14 seconds, 200M in under 29s, and after trying hard last year to throw the shot over 7M, she achieved it with a throw of 7.82M. Well done, Grace!
U16s Rugby Cup Final
Will Reed, Will Harrison and Aaron Goddard played in the rugby Fisherman’s shield cup final Sunday for Torquay Athletic Rugby Club. This was the finale of the rugby season and the end of their junior rugby together. Their opponents were Exmouth, and the match was played at Brixham in the pouring rain. It was a close match, ending in a draw of 12:12. The cup was shared between 2 deserving teams.
Exeter Athletic U13 Rugby
Louis Tillen, in Year 8, took part in a recent trip to an international age grade rugby tournament, in Lisbon Portugal with the whole Exeter Athletic U13 team and had the most incredible few days away, playing teams from all over the world.
The whole team played their hearts out, playing with raw passion and pride, flying the flag for Exeter Athletic Rugby Club and English youth rugby.
The boys ended up placing 6th out of 28 teams, reaching the quarter finals, coming away bruised, battered and exhausted, but with pride in their hearts and memories to treasure forever!
