First Steps to Ten Tors
A cold and windy start was made on Saturday by students aspiring to a place on the 45 mile teams this year with a relatively long walk testing their navigation skills and reminding them of the basics. With the temperature remaining firmly in the single digit range students nevertheless completed the course rapidly and showed promise in their navigation and fitness.
Meanwhile the 35 mile team candidates continued to develop their navigation skills in school culminating in some orienteering to prepare them for their first steps onto the moor before the Christmas break. Follow @outdooredta on twitter for more information, updates and photos.
Conditional University Places
Many of our Year 13 students have been applying to university these past few weeks. After hours of drafting and re-drafting their personal statements, researching and choosing their courses, completing the online form and having their tutors write their references, many are beginning to reap the rewards of their efforts. This week alone, 13 students have received offers from universities from around the UK. 3 students (Josh Atkinson, Shannon Ottley and Codie Rees) have received unconditional offers based on the strengths of their applications! This is an exciting and nerve-wracking time for these students but we wish them all the world of luck!
Mrs Hosking
Record numbers of students are leaving us and progressing onto the universities of their choice. This is the time of year when students start to receive their offers. I was delighted to be able to meet a group of students this morning who have all been offered conditional places at university. Many congratulations to Maggie Foulds, Brooke Cheesemond, Jasmine Powell, Kieran Parker, Codie Rees, Hannah Dale, Molly Beulah.

Sparx Maths
A huge number of Year 7 and 8 students received their Level 1 and Level 3 Sparx Badge this morning as they reached either 10000 or 30000 XP in Cycle 1. We are very proud of them all!
Science
7T7 dissected hearts this week to study the structures and function of the circulatory system. Students opened the heart up to observe the chambers and the tendons (heart strings) that open and close the valves.
Lead Learners in Music
Last week saw the announcement of the very first Year 8 ‘lead learners’ in Music. The music ‘lead learner badge’ is being awarded to a selection of students at the end of each learning cycle, who have demonstrated a consistently positive attitude towards their learning, and who have taken on a key role within their music lessons – helping others and leading performances. Well done to the following students for all of their hard work and being the very first students to receive the award:
Gabriel Prior
Klara Cornforth
Redd Benson
Robin Pightling
Owen Woodcock
Samuel Charman
Sonny Jackson
Jazz Povey
Ava Sams
Ben German
Melissa Arscott
Grace Povey
William Harrison
Freya Hyde
These students will be invited to a selection of special music workshops and events throughout the year, and are going to be making their first live performance in the upcoming Christmas concert.
Music is feeling Christmas!
The music department have been getting into the Christmas spirit this week! There’s less than two weeks until our Christmas Concert and the students have been rehearsing to ensure it is an evening that we won’t forget.

Coaching
This week year 8 boys were treated to some outstanding football coaching from the current year 12 BTEC Sport students. The students have to deliver coaching sessions as part of their coursework and they put on an excellent showcase of the skills they have learnt so far in the module. All the year 8s enjoyed the sessions and were an absolute credit in terms of their engagement and passion to work hard and learn new skills.
Wildnight Hannah
Saturday evening was another challenging Wildnight Run 5k at Ashton Gate, Bristol. The first 2.5k was a difficult uphill climb not surprisingly followed by a muddy 2.5k descent! Hannah flew round the course to claim 4th female & 1st 12-17 junior girl position in 26:34. Well done Hannah
Accelerated Reader Star Readers
During their Study Centre lessons, year 7 students use Accelerated Reader, part of these lessons involves the students taking quizzes about the books they have read which shows an understanding of the book. Every quiz passed earns the student points towards their reading target. Today we awarded certificates and badges to those students who met that target during cycle 1. Well done to all of these Star Readers
