Cheque presentation to Rowcroft Hospice
We were privileged to be visited by representatives from Rowcroft Hospice today to talk to our Year Tens in ‘Health and Social Care’ about the wonderful work they do in supporting local people with life limiting conditions. We are also very pleased to announce that over the last year we have raised an impressive £1,180 for the Torbay Hospice. This has been produced by the wonderful cakes and coffee mornings that our Health and Early Years students’ have organised and the TA non-uniform days. Thank you to everyone involved and the students for their dedication in supporting Rowcroft.
New Bowls Season
The bowls season started on Tuesday where the Academy played Cuthbert Mayne at Upton Bowls Club. Torquay played 2 teams. A Year 7 team lead by Sam Caroll and a Year 8 team lead by Josh Phillips.
For the majority of players this was their first ever bowls match played against an experienced Year 10 St Cuthbert Mayne squad. The Year 7 team won 7-2 and the Year 8 team lost 8-3.
The scores get combined in this league so the overall result was a draw. Well done to all who played.
Football Focus
Year 9 Cup Final Trophy Winners
On Wednesday the Year 9 football team took on Torquay Boys’ Grammar School at Plainmoor in a repeat of last year’s final. The game started at a frenetic pace with both teams attacking each other. TA were playing the better football and clearly winning the battle in midfield which led to TA having shots at the TBGS goal but they were from distance. TA took the lead in the 17th minute when Olaf Koszella beat 4 TBGS defenders around the box to cross the ball for Ollie Mason to head home. The game continued to go from end to end with both teams creating chances but five minutes before halftime TBGS equalised when they caught TA out on the counter attack. With half time fast approaching Cole Harford latched on to a loose ball in the midfield and ran at the heart of the TBGS defence and struck the ball from 35 yards into the roof of the net. It was a goal that proved to win TA the cup and would have been worthy of winning any cup final.
The Year 9 team take on St Peters or Exmouth next Wednesday at Stoke Gabriel in the final of the Devon Cup and looking to make it a double.
Under 12’s Football
Reece and Harry proudly displaying their trophy and medal
On Sunday 24th April Torquay Academy Sport U12’s played against Watcombe Wanderers in the Plate Final at Stoke Gabriel. It was a high-intensity match with both teams giving it their all. At half-time the score was 0-0. TA came back with Harry Denby scoring the first and only goal. The game was very technical, but TA were the victors with a score of 1-0. “Watcombe tried their hardest and I think both teams would say that it was a close match”, says Reece Shaw. They have three more League games and must win all three to stay in the 1st Division.
Schools Badminton Tournament
We took a record number of teams over to Newton Abbot College on Thursday to take part in the Schools Badminton tournament, By far, the most represented school from the area. Again some fabulous play by all 24 pupils who really rose to the occasion in their consecutive age groups. Well Done to our KS4 Boys A Team who were overall champions ( Jack Bell, Joe Belsten, Jack Lavercombe, Kieran Bailey)

Student Blog – Cycle 4 Begins!
History
In History we have started a new topic on the Tudors. So far we have learnt about Henry VIII and whether he was a good leader.
(Bethan Jackson, Year 7)
Music
Now that we are in Cycle 4, we have new topics in our subjects. In music, we started using Garage Band to create dubstep music. We learnt how to use it and what filtering means. It was fun because we got to create our own music!
(Aisa Kana, Year 7)
In music we used the tablets and iPads to create and listen to our own dubstep music. All we had to do was click a few buttons. It was very fun. And easy!
(Leilah Poulain, Year 7)
