England call up, year group photos and the final exam
European Championships for Jakub
Congratulations to Jakub Piwowar, in Year 8, who qualified for the European Youth Championship which will take place in Croatia at end of July. Table Tennis England invited 14 best players and organised a qualification tournament. Table Tennis England said: “Jakub Piwowar had a 100% record, dropping only one set.” There were only two places available and Jakub won one of them and will be representing England in European Championship. Hours of hard work on and off the table during the three lockdowns has paid off. Jakub will now take a couple of days to recover and relax, before he begins his preparation for the European Championships. Next week Jakub will receive three days of training from national coach, Ryan Jenkins who will visit our school. Huge congratulations to Jakub!
Farewell to Year 11 and 13s
This week our year 11 and 13 students completed their summer assessments. I have been so impressed with how they have applied themselves to their revision, preparation and exams in spite of all of the changes they have had to face. I wish them all the very best of luck and I hope they get the grades they deserve this summer.
Year group photos
On Monday we had our annual year 7, 11 and Sixth Form year group photos. We also took a year 8 photo due to not being able to do it last year. The year 7 and 8 photographs were taken in lovely sunshine, but following a downpour of rain and hail we had to move the staging into The Platform for year 11 and the Sixth Form.
There will be a prom!
We are delighted to be able to put on a prom for our current year 11 is this June. If the government’s roadmap to reopening goes ahead as planned we are looking forward to seeing our year 11s at this summer’s prom.
Thanks to the generosity of so many people, on Tuesday we are inviting the year 11 girls into school so they can choose a prom dress from so many dresses that were donated last year. I would like to thank everyone who donated address as they will be helping to make this summer’s prom a special event for so many of our students.
Year 9 Sport Science
This week our Year 9 Sport Science students have been evaluating the effects of exercise on the body. There is only one real way of getting them to fully appreciate the demands of exercise, and that’s by being put through their paces! Here they are this week, working hard in the fitness suite and recording their heart rate, breathing rate, range of movement and body temperature.
Hospitality & Catering Challenges
A fun packed two weeks for the students of Hospitality and Catering; the students have been baking many delicious and appetising dishes. The spaghetti bolognaise challenge demonstrated wonderful team work with a real focus on the knife skills . The syrup tart pudding was a commitment to practising and developing their pastry skills. I was very impressed by the way they took to the challenge of creating a lattice top on their syrup tart ! Well done
Jumping Success
Olivia Foster in Year 11 and her horse George jumped their way to 5th place out of 83 this weekend in a competition. Congratulations Olivia (and George)!
7,089,191 questions answered
This is how many Tassomai questions our amazing students have answered so far this year! There is no wonder why our students’ knowledge is so incredible. Well done to everyone on their efforts.
Fun Friday!
This week’s Fun Friday challenge was a bottle flip race.
