SSAT Award

I was delighted to be invited to London to collect the SSAT Award for our GCSE performance in 2016.  It is another accolade for our incredible Year 12 students and staff who achieved so much last summer.

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said: “It’s my great pleasure to commend Torquay Academy on their excellent 2016 performance, and to have the opportunity to highlight and share their great work at an SSAT Educational Outcomes celebration event. We know how hard teachers work to ensure the success of every child. SSAT’s Educational Outcomes award recognises the professionalism, commitment and hard work of the leaders, teachers and students at Torquay Academy. A big thank you and well done to the pupils, staff and governors.”

Year 7 Gymnastics Award

Year 7 pupil Ellis Knowles added to his sporting achievements this week with a coveted glass trophy for his dedication and leadership shown within the Display Squad at Torbay Olympic Gymnastic Club at their Annual Awards ceremony. Ellis has been a member of the club for 9 years, having been a part of their competition squads and now the display squad, who regularly perform at local schools and events.  His next task is to earn his coaching qualification, enabling him to assist with younger gymnasts. Well Done Ellis.

International Student

I am pictured with German work experience student Sara-Lisa Weinert who came to us through The Training Partnership.    Sara-Lisa was with us for three weeks, spending time in the admin department and other areas in the school.  She really enjoyed her experience in a large and busy school and we wish her luck with her continuing studies and work.

6th Form Certificates

At the end of another busy term in the Sixth Form, we spent this morning celebrating the many successes of our students. Teachers nominated their ‘Stars’ and certificates with the much sought after badges were awarded. We have also celebrated the students who were the top scorers on praise points and those who have made a First Class effort in all of their subjects! A massive congratulations to them all, some of whom were available for a photograph in the sunshine!

Half term

I hope everybody enjoys some well deserved rest over half term; it has been another frantic six weeks at TA.  I would like to thank all of my colleagues who are giving up their time to come in over the holiday to run revision sessions in school.  I know how beneficial our students find them and how they demonstrate our approach to ensuring every possible thing is done to support our boys and girls in the run up to their exams. Thank you.
