Bikeability
These students have all benefited from the Bikeability training they have received during the winter. 6 students gained their Level 2 certificate and are now much safer on the quiet roads and are able to tackle junctions. 26 students gained their Level 3 certificate which means they have ridden down into Torquay and have discussed many of the junctions on the way there and on the way back. We owe a good deal to the expertise of the instructor Mr P Adams who works hard to keep our students a bit safer on the busy roads of Torquay. This represents about half of the students that have taken up the opportunity to improve their on road skills. The rest are still being trained. The MTB at the front is one of the new bikes coming into school to update our fleet of Mountain Bikes. You will notice the student put on a helmet before getting onto the bike in keeping with all school based activities on bikes.
Brilliant Projects in the Art Department
Elle Bryant (Year 12) and Eleanor Nixon (Year 13) showcasing their fantastic art work this week in our wonderful Creative Arts Department.
Team TA Sports Roundup
This week has seen the transition from Winter Sports to Summer Sports, numbers at after school clubs have been encouraging but it would be great to see even more students attending. It is just a case of turning up at the sports hall at 3.15pm to take part. Students do not need to book a place as all are welcome. Athletics, Tennis, Rounders Cricket as well as Netball, Table Tennis, Basketball, Football are all on offer.
Rounders
The rounders season kicked off with two convincing wins against Paignton CSC.
Year 8 started off fielding and although Paignton were consistent hitters we managed to keep their score down to a low 5 rounders. The second inning saw TA batting and took the lead very quickly finishing the game off at 6 1/2 to 5 1/2.
Year 9 were fielding during the first inning. Paignton scoring 5 rounders but TA fielded very well and manged to catch five of their players out. This helped during the second inning, whilst we were batting as we managed to take the lead in the second inning, with the game ending 10-5.
Well done to all involved.
Players of the match

Triathlon
Angus Graham Year 7 came second in the Torbay Sportiva Triathlon last Sunday. He is still in the Tristar 2 category and despite not having been able to train much this year due to illness and injury he was very pleased with the result as indeed we are.
Table Tennis
On Sunday four of our pupils took part in the Annual Torquay Table Tennis League Tournament which saw a total of 24 young players take part in the tournament. These included; William Bevan, Bobby Western Year 7 Igor Sniegocki Year 8 and Kamil Sniegocki Year 12. William reached two semi-finals: U13 and U15 age category and came 3rd overall. All of the boys played some great table tennis and have all improved beyond recognition since the start of the year. This is thanks the coaching they receive as part of the school partnership with Jo at Torbay Table Tennis Club.
Cycling
On Wednesday, Torquay Academy held the finals of the Year 9 and 10 house cycling competition at the Velodrome, Newport, Wales. All finalist qualified at Haldon Forest earlier in the year where time trials where held.
4 boys and 4 girls from each year qualified from their respective houses. The Velodrome consisted of 1 hours training followed by a 500m track speed competition.
