A great start to a new sporting season and a busy week

Listen

Cadets

It is so busy after school every day of the week as so many clubs and societies take place.  It is great to see so many of our cadets taking part in a wide variety of activities.  Some of the sessions are led by our cadets.

A Level Geography and Biology Fieldtrip

The Biology and Geography departments took their A Level students to Braunton Burrows in North Devon to conduct their A Level fieldwork at the stunning sand dunes that exist there. Students used a variety of fieldwork techniques to look at sand dune succession, vegetation cover at different stages of the sand dune as well as test pH levels of the soil. The 32 students worked incredibly hard on what was a very warm day and will now collate their results back in school.

Fire Drill

With the astro out of action, we had a fire drill to show students where they need to line up on the main field.

Pudding club

Mrs Haines’s very popular pudding club baked cupcakes this week.

Astro Pitch Update

The white lines have now been cut in – it is very hypnotic watching them being inserted.  Next week will see many deliveries of sand and rubber as its construction comes towards the end.

Power Up Award

Well done to Ayden Goldsborough who completed all of Power Up.

Science with Miss Martin

This week 11T6 have been revising the Microscopy required practical and made slides of onion cells. This is a photograph taken down the eyepiece lens by Maverick Milton.

Winning Entry of House Writing Competition: Why Our House is the Best in the School.

Percy Fawcett is the icon for 7F. (Fawcett) Our motto is be adventurous and I think that is very important. I believe that Fawcett is the best house because by being adventurous we are exploring the world and we need to prepare ourselves by knowing what is out there. Now, I am going to explain and convince you to see that Fawcett is the best house. Shall we begin? Good!

Percy Harrison Fawcett was a British geographer, artillery officer, cartographer, archaeologist and explorer of South America. Sounds like interesting jobs right? He really liked to explore lost cities and he made it his mission to find the lost city of Z.

Before we get into that story, I would like to tell you a bit about his personal life.Percy was born on 18 August 1867. He had a wife, Nina Agnes Patterson, born 1871 and children: Jack Fawcett, Brian Fawcett and Joan Fawcett.

Along Fawcett’s career, he made it his mission to find the lost city of Z. He believed that this city was in the jungles of Brazil. So, he went all the way to Brazil. He left Torquay. The suspense! Although, he did not succeed. He actually disappeared in 1925 and was never seen again.

So that is the tale of Percy Fawcett and that is why Fawcett is the best house. It encourages us to be adventurous and to push our limits and if we really want something to happen we must just work hard, persevere and never give up.

Thank you for reading this! It is appreciated!

Team TA

Year 7 Football

Our new year 7s put on a fantastic performance in their first game together against a very good Ivybridge team to come out 3-1 winners on the day in the National ESFA cup.
This is an exciting group and we are looking forward to seeing their progress. Goals on the day came from – Harry Lee x1, Keane O’Neil x1 and Lee Stevens x1

TA Netball Academy

Our Year 7,8,9 and 10 Netball Academy teams played in the first round of the Sisters in Sport Netball League this week. It is the first time that the school has entered into the competition and each year group came up against strong opposition. Overall, every academy player commented on how enjoyable the experience was and furthermore, proved how TA Netball Academy is going from strength to strength.

Year 7 Netball Academy vs Maynard School

Tuesday brought the Year 7’s first ever Netball match against the Maynard School, Exeter. Most of the team are new to Netball and learnt the positions and rules very quickly. The game brought about many learning opportunities, and the team played fantastically well together. The coach’s player of the match went to Neeve Thomson for some outstanding interceptions and her fierce determination to win the ball back.

A big well done to the following girls who represented the school during our first match. India Faulkner, Alanna Barrett, Bella Kendall, Lilly Drake, Molly Hollomby, Sienna Welsh, Lexi Cove, Adalynn Abraham, Evie Ford, Neeve Thomson, Poppy Bettridge, Ava Mills, Imogen Monk.

Year 8 Netball Academy vs Blundell’s School

On Wednesday, the Year 8 Netball Academy played against Blundell’s School in the first round of the Sisters in Sport League. Whilst it was the team’s first game of the season, it did not take long for the girls to link together and ensure that they consistently played the ball down the court so that they could shoot and score. Although the girls didn’t come away with the result they wanted, this team showed signs that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season. Congratulations to the coach’s player of the match, Francesca Skelly, for her strength in supporting the player on the ball and her determination to never stop running! Year 8 Netball Academy: Larna Waller, Chloe German, Kelsey Drew, Rebecca Quarshie, Francesca Skelly, Ellie Farthing, Ashleigh Evans, Maisie Sandercock, Millie Swift and Joss Full.

Year 9 Netball Academy vs Maynard School

On Tuesday, the Year 9 Netball Academy played against Maynard School in the first round of the Sisters in Sport League. A tight scoreline ruled the first half of the game, with only a point between each team on several occasions. Team TA successfully transferred what they had been working so hard on in training into the game, utilising their set plays and shooting consistently which continued to keep the scoreline close. Unfortunately, the final score did not reflect how hard the girls had worked, however each individual walked off court knowing that they put everything into their performance. Congratulations to the coach’s player of the match, Lydia Bevan, who displayed strength and determination throughout the entire game and who overall, was a true role model to the rest of her team.

Year 9 Netball Academy: Brooke Tully, Isabelle Moxham, Amara Phillips, Eve Cameron, Katie Rowe, Ivy Hodgson-Hunt, Ema Kestell, Sophie Nicholson, Millie Sneap and Lydia Bevan

Year 10 Netball

Year 8 & 9 Girls Football – U15 ESFA national cup

This was the girls’ first game together and they were brilliant, due to different reasons we eventually only travelled with the bare 11 so each girl had a 6 minute spell in goal each.  Some of the play was brilliant and the girls were a credit to TA with their attitude and performance. The result ended with us winning 8-0 with our goals coming from – Farah Ambrose with a hat-trick, Lana Northcott x2, Leela Cartwright x2 and Ava Shobbrook x1

Year 10 Boys Football

On Thursday our year 10s travelled to Paignton for their first ESFA national cup game of the season. We travelled with a strong team who were feeling confident to hit the ground running after a couple of good training sessions.
The boys put on a fantastic performance and fully deserved their victory. Here are the details of the game and goal scorers :

Year 11 Boys Football vs Ivybridge

On Wednesday, we started the campaign with a game against Ivybridge in the elite national schools cup. Ivybridge started the better of the two sides and this continued throughout the game. On the stroke of half time they took the lead with a well worked move being finished well.

The second half began much the same as the first with Ivybridge dominating the play. TA then gambled pushing bodies forward seeking an equaliser but it was not forthcoming. On the stroke of full time Ivybridge doubled their lead securing victory as TA were caught short at the back chasing the game.

The team now takes on South Devon College on Tuesday in the first round of the National Cup.

Post 16 Season Opener v Bridgwater

Our opening game of the ECFA Premier league was an entertaining one. With penalty claims, disallowed goals and many one on one saves this game had loads of action but finished 1-1 in the end.
3 away journeys in the next 3 weeks to Wales will test us as a team and it will be a great challenge for the boys. This team has lots of potential but will need time to gel as a new group.

Sports Massage

Thank you to former player and student Connor Thompson from @ctsportsmassageandpt for working on our players last week. It’s great when we can welcome back previous students to support the football programme.

More success for Hannah!

On Sunday, Hannah ran her final Honiton Hippo Calf 3k trail run. This was her 6th year of running this U16 woodland trail, complete with mud & thigh-high river crossing before an uphill sprint to cross the finish line! She was proud to finish 3rd girl. Well run, Hannah, move up to the 10k next year!
