1,400 tests in two days, your best tricks and photography

Listen

A momentous effort

On Thursday and Friday this week we have tested 1,400 students in readiness to welcome them back to school for lessons on Monday.  I am so grateful to all of our staff who undertook training so they have been able to carry out a variety of roles in our testing centre.  To carry out all of the tests over two days has really been a mammoth operation.

It was so lovely to see everyone again – it has been over two months since the majority have been in school. As always, our students really impressed me as they sat through the briefing and were then tested with no fuss.  I can’t wait to have everyone back on Monday.

To see how efficient the testing centre was, have a look at the video below.

Fun Friday

Thank you to everyone for sharing your best tricks.  No challenge this week as you will all be with us for the next Fun Friday!

Year 7 Music

With only 1 week left until students fully return to school, we thought it was about time we jumped off BandLab and started playing some real instruments again. As a new member of staff, Mr Johns didn’t know what to expect in these lessons, however his class did not disappoint. With Charlie Grimley’s confident vocals, Lisa Szewczuk’s timely Keys, Owen Waller’s groovy Bass and Lyra Bowstead’s solid drumming, there is a foundation of a strong band showing here. Accompanied by Charlie Knight’s African drumming and the duo of Leah Hope and Olivia Riches on the Tambourines. I look forward to seeing what the rest of KS3 is capable of when they return.

KS3 Art Club

Many thanks to all the KS3 students who entered work in the ‘Reflections’ Photography Competition.  We had some amazing and creative responses to the competition and the judges were very impressed with the quality of the photographic work submitted.  It was difficult to choose an overall winner, but we were able to do so, on the strength of the prize winning photographer’s unique and original approach to the challenge.  Our first prize winner is Sophie Nicholson, who produced an amazing trio of images.

Our joint 2nd prize Photography winners are Amelia Berriman and Jemimah Jones.  Anthony Hewitt is awarded a commendation certificate for his interesting photographs of boats in the harbour.

If you would like to join the Art Club, please let Mrs Lynch know and she will add your name.  The new art challenge will be posted on the site this week.

Performing Arts and Football Academies

I am so proud that we have been able to keep our after school academies running through lockdown with both students in school and at home taking part.  I am looking forward to next week when all students will be back in school taking part.

Year 7 cooking

Here are some photos of Year 7 students developing their baking skills and bread making this week in the Essential School. We look forward to seeing all students back in school next week where we intend to continue to develop practical skills (socially distanced) across Food & Cookery and Product Design in Key Stage 3. Get ready to get stuck in to your practical work everyone!
