Music is a profound and important part of any child’s education, and the skills learned and experience gained through their learning will affect and improve their abilities in many areas of their lives. For example it has been well documented that music stimulates the brain, encourages both physical and emotional responses, relieves stress and increases a child’s attention span. Learning how to play and perform on an instrument is an important life skill as it builds confidence, self-reliance and self discipline – so we endeavour to offer as many opportunities as possible for our students to do so at Torquay Academy.
“Music education gives you have a better understanding of yourself. Your understanding of art and the world, and how you can think and express yourself, are enhanced. The horizons are higher when you are involved in music.” Dr. Eric Rasmussen, chair of the Early Childhood Music Department at the Peabody Preparatory of The Johns Hopkins University.
