Patisserie, creative wall art and getting back on the pitch

 Creative Arts Corridor

Our students have been wowed by the new creative arts corridor this year.  Miss Pappin and her team designed how they wish their new inspiring space to look.  It is brilliant and just adds to the wonderful atmosphere in the corridor.

It also acts as the perfect place for Mr Chadwick to hide when he is in his Pengelly gear!

 Competition for House outfits

09.10.20 Doc Hoc Darwin Suit

Dr Hocking has been unable to watch Mr Chadwick walk the school in his Pengelly suit with going green with envy so he has purchased a Darwin suit to rally his troops!

Greenpower F24

This Sunday morning our Team TA Motorsport team will be heading off to Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex to compete in the next Greenpower F24 event. Last time out the school’s 2 cars, Pugh and Bindon, secured a mightily impressive 1-2 in the super competitive event where schools race against each other with matched motors and battery packs so the winners and losers are sorted by innovation, teamwork and build quality.

These events really are a great opportunity for our talented youngsters to build valuable employability skills and gather fantastic highlights for their CVs and future interviews.

We are always seeking ways to develop so if you have any expertise that may assist us or would like to sponsor our amazing team please contact

Year 7 Maths Intervention

09.10.20 Y7 Maths intervention1 09.10.20 Y7 Maths intervention2

Y7 maths intervention takes place each day from 8.20-8.50.  We’ve worked hard on our times tables and applying this to multiplication questions.  This morning, we used dice to decide the numbers to multiply together.

Impromptu Homework Club!

20.10.09 Y9 homework club

Mr Gale was delighted to see these four year 9 boys forming an impromptu breakfast/homework club!

Charlotte’s Garden

02.10.20 Charlotte's Garden

It is wonderful to see this area of the year 7 hub being used so productively each day. Every break, students come to sit at the tables and talk to each other, eat food or complete homework after school.

Mountain Biking

20.10.09 mountain biking

Students braved the glorious Devon weather for their second session of Mountain Biking at Haldon Forest. A short(ish) ride using parts of the Kiddens trail saw students having a go at mastering the berms (we can see Bartosz attacking the pump track with vigor in the photo) and practicing some slow speed balance skills. If any of year 7 are interested in joining who aren’t trying it out yet they can collect a letter from the year 7 office, return the attached slip and Mr Whelan will come and find them once he has a bike ready for them to join in.

Space Designs

09.10.20 APac Design

I was delighted to see these designs that Adam Pac shared with me.  He has been enjoying hand-building these designs in Kerbal Space Program.

Chantilly Patisserie Visit

chant 8

Students from Yr 10 and 11 Food Technology were very fortunate to be invited to a presentation delivered by the amazing Chantilly Patisserie at the Platform. This was a very inspiring talk to explore the world of a Patisserie Chef where we learned about the skills and expertise that is involved in the business. Towards the end of the masterclass we were able to sample some of their delicious products…this was greatly appreciated by staff and students.. a big thank you to Charles and Eugene.

Back Playing…

It was great to see our lads on the pitch again after such a long lay off, this was our first friendly since we started back training. It was a fantastic run out against Plymouth Argyle Community Trust with plenty of positives to take from the game. Next week we travel to Millfield in preparation for the league starting in November.

Virtual London Marathon & Charity PE Video

On Sunday Mr Christophers completed a virtual marathon around Tavistock and Ivybridge. It was a fantastic effort from him raising £1,500 for his charity VICTA. In order to help, the year 9 bubble held a raffle where the winner not only won a lot of sweets but also got to pie face and tip a bucket of water over Mr Grinsill. They also won a hamper of sweets. That honour fell to Jack Iris in 9B. See the video for just how much fun year 9 had. On behalf of all in year 9 and Mr Grinsill congratulations to Mr Christophers what a top effort it was and we are all super proud of you!
