Year 7 Catch-up
Torquay Academy receives government funding as part of a national initiative to support the learning progress of those students arriving in year 7 with Maths and reading levels of less than a level 4. This funding is known as the Year 7 Catch-up premium.
Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-Up Grant 2014-15
The following interventions were put into place during 2014-15 academic year:
Literacy:
• Two full time dedicated support staff to engage with 1-2-1 literacy intervention
• Lexia literacy programme
• Phonics reading programme
• Range of literacy resources and software
• Fully stocked and up to date library
• New This Year: Reading records
• Literacy SLT link
Due to the interventions we use in Yr 7 the average reading age increase was 2 yrs 5 months.
Numeracy:
• Employment of numeracy coordinator, to ensure numeracy is embedded within T&L practices
• Dedicated numeracy resources and intervention area
• Numeracy evenings
• New This year: Two full time dedicated support staff to engage with 1-2-1 numeracy intervention
• New This year: Intervention and support software
