Modern Foreign Languages

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.
If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”
Nelson Mandela

At Torquay Academy we begin by studying the language of our nearest neighbours (French) in the hope that one day we will be able to speak to them in their own language. We also learn Spanish and/or German in Year 7 as these are the major European languages.

Languages will open doors to you in the future! When learning languages not only are you learning to speak and understand a new language, but you also learn communication skills, team work, flexibility, being outside your comfort zone, perseverance and memory skills – life-long skills much appreciated by future employers.
