Drama

Torquay Academy’s drama department aims to provide the opportunity to develop and value creative skills for all students of every age, background and ability. It aims to promote communication and collaborative skills, encourage confidence and self- belief in individuals, inspire creativity and imagination and support risk taking and problem solving.

 

Year 7

All students study drama for one lesson per fortnight.  During each fortnight they will be set one piece of homework.  Progress is formally examined at the end of each nine week Teaching and Learning Quarter.
Quarter 1 Intro to drama ‘A Whistlestop tour’ (Part 1)
Quarter 2 Intro to drama ‘A Whistlestop tour’ (Part 2)
Quarter 3 Darkwood Manor: Improv and characterisation
Quarter 4 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Script work

Year 8

All students study drama for two lessons per fortnight.  During each fortnight they will be set one piece of homework.  Progress is formally examined at the end of each nine week Teaching and Learning Quarter.

Quarter 2 Physical Theatre: ‘Wonderland’
Quarter 3 Evacuees: Devising
Quarter 4

Year 9

Students follow the Edexcel GCSE course.  It is examined by Mrs Jagger-Rowden and an exterior examiner from Edexcel.  Students have four lessons per fortnight and they will receive one piece of homework per week.
Quarter 1 Introduction to GCSE Drama
Quarter 2 Drama Practitioners and Theatre Companies
Quarter 3 Unit 1- The Nature of the Beast
Quarter 4 Unit 3- Devising skills

Year 10

Students follow the Edexcel GCSE course.  It is examined by Mrs Jagger-Rowden and an exterior examiner from Edexcel.  Students have four lessons per fortnight and they will receive one piece of homework per week.
Quarter 1 Explorative strategies, mediums and elements
Quarter 2 Unit 1- practice and preparation/Unit 3-devising work
Quarter 3 Unit1-practical exam/Unit 3-working from a script
Quarter 4 Unit 2- practice and preparation

Year 11
