Children’s Play, Learning & Development

At Torquay Academy we are now offering a new and exciting subject that that focuses on preparing learners for a career within the early years of a child’s development. Your son/daughter will develop the skills to commit to a worthy and fulfilling occupation which will utilise these skills, eg nursery nurse, teacher, midwife, health visitor, child minder etc. Students will gain a deep understanding of the ways that young children learn and develop in the first crucial five years of their lives and the vital role an adult has in supporting the child’s development. It is a practical and vocational subject where we actively encourage students to gain work experience in this area to ensure they gain the practical skills needed to be an effective practitioner. Experts in the early years will deliver talks and presentations on particular aspects of the course. This subject also has the added advantage of 70% coursework and only 30% external assessment. It is a must for our young people who love children and want to support and help them in growing into a well rounded, healthy and happy child. “I really like Children’s Play, Learning and Development because you learn about the way children develop and the role an adult plays in making sure the child reaches his/her potential”.
