Welcome back to everyone after what I hope has been an enjoyable Christmas and New Year break.
End of Term Assembly
We ended the Autumn term with our assembly packed with music; below you can watch the wonderful performances by our students that we all enjoyed.
Harvey offered place at Music College
The good news continues into the New Year in the music department; we were delighted the find out this week that Y13 music student Harvey Comer has been offered a place to study at the Academy of Contemporary Music, one of the most prestigious contemporary music institutions in the country. Harvey will begin his studies with a foundation year at ACM Guildford before transferring to ACM London to complete his degree. This comes off the back of the news we received before Christmas about fellow music student Daniel Williams who has also been successful at securing a place at ACM London in September. Three other sixth form music students have auditions this month to secure places at Falmouth University to study Popular Music Performance and Creative Music Technology; good luck to Tom Neale, George Full and Chelsea Peter.
Student Leadership Team
I am pleased to introduce the Student Leadership Team to you all who are pictured with me, Mrs Sanders and Mrs Hosking. They are L-R ; Brandon Bridge (Torquay Voice), Eloise Jackson (Deputy Head Girl), George Fenn (Head Boy) Ellie Piper (Head Girl) Cameron Knowles (Deputy Head Boy), Chanelle Green (Deputy Head Girl), Amy Morgan (Torquay Voice). Tom Parry (Deputy Head Boy) was unavailable for the photo due to illness.
Taekwondo Grading Success
During the Christmas break, on 18th December at Torbay Leisure Centre, Kacy Fairhurst (7N) attended her Taekwondo grading under the watch of Mr Churchwood, Mr Buxton and Kacy’s Taekwondo teacher Mr Gibbs. Kacy attends Kings TKD incorporating primary Taekwondo run by Mr Gibbs at Torquay Girls’ Grammar School. Kacy was presented with her new blue belt when Mr Gibbs made a surprise visit. Well done Kacy.
On Thursday afternoon, a team of Year 7 boys and Year 7 girls competed in the South Devon Futsal competition. After a strong start with 3 wins (6-1 v Spires, 2-1 v Newton Abbot College and PCSA) the boys put themselves in an excellent position to qualify as winners for the County finals. However, a disappointing second half of the tournament saw close losses to TBGS, St Cuthbert Mayne and Churston Ferrers (all 2-1). As such, we finished the tournament in 3rd place. Pictured are the squad, along with Harrison Lee and Ryan Johns-Kouadio who supported admirably despite not being able to play, due to being part of the Exeter City Academy. Man of the Tournament – Charlie Swiderski
