Six Nations Trophy in School
It was unbelievable to be able to get so close up to the 6 Nations and the Triple Crown Trophies this week. All Schools Rugby has been fantastic over the last 2 years, it has enabled a greater number of students to play and with closer links to Torquay Rugby Club the students have made a real improvement. There are strong teams in all year groups including a very successful girls team who got to the county final. All teams play regularly across South Devon and there are a number of opportunities for all students to get involved. Thank you to the RFU (Gary Kingdom and Bob Armstrong) for bringing it down to Devon.
Elyse Leech on winning form
Year 11 student Elyse Leech won her heat for 200m and 100m at the S.West Athletics Gala in Exeter . She went on to win the Gold in the 100m, Silver in the 200m and £20.00, prize money. This was really great as she moved up an age group to the U20’s. It was the first S.West Athletics Gala they have held. There were some U.K. Athletes competing in the Men’s competitions. Fantastic achievement Elyse, well done !!
Year 7 Bowls
The Year 7 Bowls team continues their winning run to go top of the Torbay Bowls League. The team, skippered by Sam Carrol, beat Tower House 9-1 on Tuesday. They have been particularly impressive as they are often competing against older students with experience from previous seasons. Well done to the team for their win !!

TA’s Charity Ambassador – Jack Cumston
Over the last two years Jack has spent a great deal of his spare time organising and participating in fund raising events for our local Hospice, Rowcoft. He is a remarkable young man who has actually raised over £1400 for the charity. As I am sure you are aware, Rowcroft is one of the local charities that TA supports and we want to celebrate his success and accomplishment.
Jack stated “I wanted to give something back to them after they looked after my Nan so well before she passed away. I have completed a sponsored run from Paignton to Brixham and I have also put out charity boxes in local shops in St Marychurch to encourage people to donate.”
Well done Jack; we are so proud of the selfless and tireless work you have demonstrated in your commitment to ensuring that the hospice receives the funds to help and support other people with complex medical needs. Anyone who is keen to raise more money and funds for the hospice; please see Jack in Year 8.
Year 7 Lexia Success
Before half term we celebrated with the first Year 7 student to finish Lexia. Denny Watkins (pictured) has worked very hard, both in school and at home, in order to complete all five levels of the Lexia programme.
Denny’s dedication and hard work paid off giving her the reward of being the first student in Year 7 to finish. The race is now on to see who will be the second finisher. Other recent finishers include, Corey Parle, Chloe Bevan and Ellie Miles. Well done to all of them.
Last Autumn we were introduced to Moor Boots who are a charity we have come across before. They invited us to arrange for suitably deserving students to apply for a set of boots to enable them to complete the Expedition section of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze. 4 students applied successfully and they were very pleased. On Monday we went to Exeter to get the boots fitted. Not only did each student get a new set of boots but they also got a new pair of walking socks along with the waterproofing which they will need to keep the boots fully waterproof for as long as possible. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Moor Boots charity for their generous support.
