Oxbridge applications

We talk a great deal about climbing the mountain to university.  Oxford and Cambridge are the hardest universities in the country to get into and I could not be more proud of the 11 (yes, eleven) students who have made their applications there this year.  That is over 10% of our Year 13s who are taking on the greatest academic challenge.  We wish them the very best as they embark on this journey.

Mountain biking

There was a real treat for our mountain bikers this week when ex-student and British Champion, Natasha Bradley, came along to help with the coaching of our students.  Thank you, Natasha!

Air-powered cars

There has been some great work in Year 8 Enterprise this week.  Students undertook some methodical testing and careful development of air-powered racing cars that have been inspired by our Greenpower Racing Car Team.

Best raffle prize ever!

Year 9 had a raffle organised by Mr Christophers and they raised £61.50 for VICTA UK.  The winner got to this to Mr Grinsill.

Miss Walklin’s Year 9 dancers had twenty minutes to create their own interpretation of Rosas Danst Rosas. The girls interpreted it beautifully and told the story so well without any help – they are real superstars.

Understanding Decimals

Year 7s have been working hard over the last week in Maths on their understanding of decimals. Here Mr Jenner’s class are using bead strings to represent tenths and hundredths.

It was doughnuts all around for Years 7 and 8 this week!

Year 9 – Fun Friday

The rock, paper, scissors champion had to found in Year 9 today and the winner was Summer Mansell.

Year 10 – Fun Friday

It was the turn of Year 10s to have some limbo fun today!

Year 11 – Fun Friday

This weeks year 11 Fun Friday was a dingbats quiz. It was lovely to see so much teamwork and healthy competition.

1st Team Football

This week our 1st team travelled to Millfield School for their second preseason game of the month, when we played last year the game was very competitive with some great football from both sides. This one was another very close game with two good teams that play attractive, attacking football.  It was another good 90 minutes for the boys to get used to new teammates and new systems of play.  The day was a success for both schools and the 2-2 result was probably a fair scoreline in the end.  Next up is a doubleheader v South Devon College for our boys and girls teams.  Below you can see the goals from Jamie Passmore and  Tor Swann as well as the full game.

Football Academy

It has been another busy week for our Years 7 and 8 footballers.  It’s great to see so many taking part in our after school sessions.  We have football running every night for each year group which includes our Boys and Girls team training, recreation group sessions and goalkeeper sessions also.  We are proud to see so many students enjoying themselves whilst developing with our brilliant qualified football coaches and teachers.
